I have done nothing but lose since joining Five Rings- as in lost 6 inches off my waist and nearly 40 lbs off my gut. I started with Five Rings a year and a half ago as a 43 year old, out of shape, frustrated ex-athlete and it has been an incredible journey for me since. The Professors and coaches create a great atmosphere whether you are in it for fitness or "joy-jitsu" or looking to compete and excel. I cannot recommend Five Rings enough!

I visited from out of town and participated in a jiu jitsu class. Instructor Mohler was very welcoming and gave me a personal tour at entry. Good guys at every level, both gi and no-gi. Great culture/environment! Thanks Team Mohler for the great experience!!

Some historians of jiu jitsu say that the origins of "the gentle art" can be traced back to India, and was practiced by Buddhist Monks. Concerned with self-defense, these monks created techniques based upon principles of balance and leverage, and a system of manipulating the body in a manner where one could avoid relying upon strength or weapons. With the expansion of buddhism, jiu jitsu spread from southeast Asia to China, finally arriving in Japan where it developed and gained further popularity

With my parents recently moving to Waukee and myself at their home visiting for winter break from school I wanted to find something to help me stay active over the holidays. From the first time I contacted No Coast BJJ to making me feel very welcome and taken care of during my first class, I realized No Coast is the place to learn jiu-jitsu. They worked with my short two-week time frame that I... Read More

I was very impressed with the instructors at No Coast during the kids jiujitsu class. They are great at attention to detail but also great at knowing when the kids just need to roll for a while and figure things out themselves. There are many different martial arts that can be practiced, but jiu-jitsu is a special martial art that is very effective in actual combat situations but is also a sport. Unlike Karate, Taekwondo, or Krav Maga, BJJ doesn't include striking with punches or kicks. This does not mean that it isn't a very physical sport.

For many, it also provides an outlet for the stresses of daily life. When you step on the mat, everything else is put to the side for a moment, while both your mind and body are engaged in learning jiu jitsu.

Most importantly, unlike many other sports and physical activities, BJJ is unique in that it can be done by anyone. Jiu Jitsu was designed and developed so that a smaller, weaker person can defend his or herself against, or even defeat, a larger and stronger opponent. So regardless of age, size, gender or physical limitation, any person can utilize the techniques and principals of jiu jitsu, and reap the benefits of its practice.

There are many factors taken into consideration when awarding new BJJ ranks including demonstration of technical proficiency, understanding of the principles of jiu-jitsu, ability to teach others, level of physical conditioning and sportsmanship.

I have trained at gyms all over the US, many high level. Atos is by far the best gym in the world and I have no hesitation saying that. Everyone is extremely welcoming. I have never felt in danger rolling with anyone. Everyone is extremely friendly. Every single instructor is the highest level of competitor, as well as instruction. Every class is a positive experience and it is without a doubt the best place in the world to further your jiu jitsu.

Atos is the place to train if you want to begin your jiu jitsu journey. I have trained here for a few months and now I know why Atos has been called the best gym to train Brazilian jiu jitsu . They have a plethora of world class instructors that also compete and constantly win the biggest competitions. The instructors and fellow members all are very humble and share the same goal of getting better everyday. They have many different classes that accommodate to different skill levels and different groups. Overall, the environment here at Atos is unrivaled and is a place you need to train at. 041b061a72
